Farm Update: A Season of Growth and New Beginnings
It’s hard to believe how much has happened on the farm in just a few short months. As we reflect on everything we've achieved, it's exciting to see how far we've come, and how much the farm continues to evolve. What started as a vision is slowly becoming a reality, with new arrivals, new projects, and new challenges all contributing to our journey.
One of the biggest tasks we tackled recently was bailing hay from around 30 acres of land. It was a long and labor-intensive job, but we’re thrilled to share that it was a success. In total, we managed to harvest 180 small round bales. Of those, 120 have been carefully stacked and stored in the hay shed, ready to be used when needed. The remaining 60 bales, however, are slowly being fed to our new arrivals. These young ones are still getting used to their new environment, and it's important to make sure they’re well-fed and comfortable as they settle in.
Speaking of new arrivals, we’re excited to share that we’ve officially launched our equine program. This has been a long time in the making, and it’s already shaping up to be something special. We welcomed three horses to the farm, all retirees who’ve come here to live out their days in peace and comfort. These horses are agisted on the property, and it’s been a joy to watch them settle in. They’re already being spoiled with the attention and care they deserve, and we’re looking forward to building lasting bonds with them.
At the same time, we’ve seen some changes with our cattle. We recently said goodbye to the six older lowline cows that had been with us for quite some time. While it was bittersweet to part ways with them, we were ready to make room for the next chapter. In their place, we welcomed six beautiful six-month-old Angus heifer calves. Watching them graze and explore their new surroundings has been a highlight. They’re still a little shy, but we’re already working on winning them over with plenty of pats and positive reinforcement. It won’t be long before they’re fully comfortable here, and we can’t wait to watch them grow.
There was a bit of drama one night when two of the Angus heifers managed to escape their paddock. It was a stressful moment, as we scrambled to track them down and get them back to safety. Thankfully, with a little teamwork and determination, we managed to catch them and move them to a more secure paddock. In the meantime, we’re working on repairing the fences to make sure that doesn’t happen again anytime soon. It’s just one of those farm challenges that you have to be ready for, but it’s all part of the experience.
Looking ahead, we’re excited to see how the Angus heifers continue to grow and develop. In about 12-18 months, they’ll be ready for sale when they reach their ideal weight. Until then, we’re thoroughly enjoying watching them thrive on the property. There’s something incredibly rewarding about watching animals settle in and seeing them grow stronger day by day. We also have some exciting plans for the future. In the next month or two, we’ll be welcoming our first Wagyu heifers with calves at foot. It’s a big milestone for the farm, and we’re eagerly awaiting their arrival.
It’s been a whirlwind of activity, but we wouldn’t have it any other way. The farm is becoming more vibrant with each passing month, and we feel incredibly grateful for everything we’ve achieved so far. There’s still a lot of work to do, but we’re excited to continue this journey and share it with all of you. Until next time, thank you for being a part of our story—there’s so much more to come.
